The Wesabe blog

We love it when people build tools for themselves using Wesabe. Excel, for instance, is a great tool for analyzing numbers, and for the people who like and use Excel, it’s great to be able to clean up your data in Wesabe (taking advantage of our community editing features) and then run more sophisticated analyses in Excel.

The world of Wesabe hackers (in the “playful inventors” meaning of the word, of course!) is growing. Here are some recent projects you might find useful:

• Charlie Groves wrote a Python script to export all of your Wesabe data in one shot. This is great for doing periodic updates to, say, an Excel spreadsheet — run this script to get your data and then update.
• Charlie also wrote a separate script to make reports from the exported data. He gives an example for how to use it, showing his wife’s business transactions as a report. Great job!
• Chris Roos has been on a tear, automating downloads from various UK banks, even those that don’t offer any export formats at all. These scripts are awesome. Chris has a Google Code project to host all of his scripts — check it out for updates. Here’s the current list of Wesabe-related scripts (linked to the blog posts that explain them):

  • Automatically downloading my most recent Hsbc transactions
  • Automatically downloading my recent transactions from Lloyds Tsb
